Yashasvi Jaiswal hits a new low as a fielder

Jaiswal is one of the most impressive young cricketers in world cricket, and he is also a great athlete. He covers the ground very well and had also built his reputation as a reliable fielder.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal has completely tarnished his reputation following some shocking blunders on the field in his last few Test matches.

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Down Under, Yashasvi Jaiswal made horrible mistakes on the field, and his fielding woes have continued in the ongoing five-match Test series against the England National Cricket Team.

In the first innings, Jaiswal dropped three catches and was forced to do a solo slip-catching training by the Indian team management.

Many expected that the youngster would improve following the rigorous training, but that didn't happen, and he made yet another mistake on the field in the second innings.

On the fifth ball of the 39th over, Mohammed Siraj bowled a short length ball to Ben Duckett, who smashed it towards deep backward square-leg.

Yashasvi Jaiswal came in running for the catch, made a dive, got both hands on the ball, but spilled the catch. Mohammed Siraj was extremely angry after the dropped catch, and the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, was also disappointed seeing the blunder.

Jaiswal's error proved costly as Ben Duckett went on to register a ton, and now the youngster holds the unwanted record for the joint-most dropped catches (4) by an Indian player in a Test match.

Just this cruel fate that we're seeing happen here - Sanjay Manjrekar

Speaking on-air, former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar said that Jaiswal should have taken that catch as it was quite easy.

"Just this cruel fate that we're seeing happen here. Jaiswal, you just mentioned, not in gully, he's deep square leg, but he's dropped a catch, a difficult one. And against Mohammed Siraj. We're talking about him getting a bit hot under the collar. Should have taken this. Should have taken this catch," said Sanjay Manjrekar on air.

"It's nerves more than anything else. When you drop catches and Mohammed Siraj, you've got to feel for him, at this stage of his career as well, the kind of form that is carrying for the last so many test matches. Wickets a lot coming his way. There's one very important one here. Ben Duckett, well said. Ben Duckett would have been out, India would have been right back in the game. Wasn't to be."
