The five-match T20I series between India and Zimbabwe got underway on Saturday (July 6) at the Harare Sports Club, Harare. The series is India's first assignment as the reigning T20 world champions.
Shubman Gill is leading a young Indian team in the series. For the first two games, no player from the T20 World Cup-winning squad is on the team. Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson were named in the squad for the Zimbabwe series but their late arrival from Barbados saw them getting ruled out of the first two games.
They have been replaced by Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana. For the series-opener, India handed debuts to three players - Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma. Of the three players, only Jurel has the experience of playing international cricket as he made his Test debut earlier this year.
On the other hand, Parag and Sharma earned their maiden India call-up for the ongoing series. For the first game, captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first.
And it did not take Mukesh Kumar long to justify his captain's call. The right-arm pacer struck on his very first over to give India a good start. On the first ball of the second over, Mukesh Kumar sent back Innocent Kaia for a golden duck. The Zimbabwe opener ended up dragging on the ball onto the stumps while trying to play a drive.

Talking about the game, Zimbabwe were on 21 for 1 in the 4th over at the time of writing this report. Brian Bennett has looked in good touch so far as he started his innings by hitting three fours in quick succession. The hosts would be hoping that he capitalizes on the start and guide them to a good total.
