The Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a colossal blow during the fourth match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as the 31-year-old right-arm pacer Mukesh Kumar picked up an injury.

The match between the Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals and Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants is currently underway at the Dr. YSR Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

Mukesh Kumar goes down with an injury

After a good stint with the Delhi Capitals (DC) that helped him make his all-format debut for the India National Cricket Team, Mukesh Kumar was reacquired by the franchise at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction for INR 8 crore.

He started his campaign in the IPL 2025 on a poor note as he gave away 14 runs in his first over, which was the 6th over of the innings. He returned to bowl in the 12th over of the innings, in which he gave away 8 runs and picked the wicket of dangerous Mitchell Marsh, who scored 36-ball 72.

However, after that, he was not able to bowl, as he suffered an injury. On the third ball of the 15th over, Mitchell Starc bowled a slower short ball to Nicholas Pooran, who hit it towards deep backward square-leg.

Mukesh Kumar was the fielder stationed there, and he overran but managed to stop the ball from reaching the boundary with one hand. However, in the process, he seemed to have injured his leg and was down on the ground. The pacer looked in extreme pain and was taken off the field for treatment.

Delhi Capitals would be hoping that nothing is serious as Mukesh Kumar missing the rest of the competition would be a major loss for the franchise.

Delhi Capitals entered the match as favorites to win

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo ahead of the DC vs. LSG clash, former India pacer Varun Aaron said that the Delhi Capitals would be the favorites to win the match as they have got a good bowling attack. He said:

"I'm going to go with Delhi just because they're a settled unit, good bowling attack, good batting, good batsmen, experienced batsmen.I think there's no comparison to experience. Because you've seen through the IPL, if you are a bit inexperienced, the occasion can overhaul you and get the better of you. But Delhi seems really well settled, and Lucknow going in with injuries. So, I would back Delhi for this one."

Also, the former Australia batter Matthew Hayden was on the same page with Varun Aaron and he also backed DC to win. He said:

"Yeah, hard to argue against that. They're at home. I think they can make this a real fortress as well. Got a well-settled side, an experienced side. And their batting line-up is superb. And their X-factor, which Australian cricket actually hasn't been really lured into playing Jake Fraser McGaugh. Their X-factor Delhi was him."
