The ongoing second ODI between the India National Cricket Team and the West Indies National Cricket Team witnessed a dramatic moment when Naman Dhir produced a stunning yet controversial catch to dismiss Keacy Carty at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
However, Dhir produced an excellent effort at cover point, but the on-field umpires were not completely convinced that the ball had been taken cleanly by the Indian fielder and decided to send the decision upstairs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. Amid this, Virat Kohli is set to dethrone Shubman Gill as No.1 ODI batter in the ICC Rankings.
Naman Dhir’s stunning catch creates drama in Guwahati
The incident unfolded on the last ball of the 5th over during the West Indies’ innings in the ongoing second ODI in Guwahati. Prasidh Krishna delivered a good-length ball to Keacy Carty, who went for an aggressive drive toward the cover-point region.
However, the ball came slowly off the surface, and Carty played the shot slightly early. The delivery took the outer part of his bat and travelled towards cover point, where it had already lost its pace. At that point, Naman Dhir reacted brilliantly.
Dhir moved towards his left, charged forward, and threw himself at the ball at full stretch. He managed to get both hands underneath it and appeared to complete a spectacular low catch. But the on-field umpires were not sure whether Dhir had managed to keep his fingers underneath the ball or whether the ball had touched the ground while completing the catch.
Third umpire confirms Naman Dhir’s catch was clean
They eventually decided to take another look before making a final decision. The third umpire carefully checked the available angles to find out whether the ball had touched the ground before Dhir completed the catch.
After reviewing the footage, the third umpire confirmed that Dhir had his fingers underneath the ball, and Carty had to walk out after scoring just 9 runs from 10 balls.
