Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sanjay Manjrekar locked horns on live TV over none other than the Indian cricket superstar and Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli.

Sanjay Manjrekar sparked the fire by claiming that Virat Kohli is no longer at his peak and Jasprit Bumrah is currently the biggest name in Indian cricket.

Sanjay Manjrekar said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live show, “Virat Kohli was the best 5-6 years ago. Bumrah is at its peak. So, Bumrah’s stock is running high. Virat's stock used to be there. So now this is not best vs. best.”

But Sidhu wasn’t having any of it as the former Indian cricketer stormed back and defended Kohli by reminding everyone of his unmatched legacy. The commentator called Kohli the very heart and soul of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Sidhu insisted that Kohli's presence alone decides the mood of millions of fans and compared his legacy to none other than legendary Kapil Dev. He revealed how fans switch off the TV once Kohli is dismissed and stressed that it is a true sign of the superstar’s real impact.

Navjot Singh Sidhu: “It is not possible that the center point moves away from Virat Kohli. Last time, one of my friends called me. I asked him, how was the match yesterday? He said, Virat Kohli is out. I will switch it off. See what he earned. I have seen only one such person.

When I used to go to the village, there was a person. He used to ask me, Which game do you play? I said, I play cricket. He said, Kapil Dev's game. He made a bigger name than the game. What Virat Kohli has done. What is the position of Kohli? Now who will go above the Himalayas?”

Still, Manjrekar didn’t agree with Sidhu and insisted that it was just his opinion. The commentator calmly said, “These are your views.” Well, the heated argument didn’t stop there, as Sidhu hit back by proudly calling Kohli the best cricketer of the modern era in India.

'Virat Kohli is soul of the IPL'

Sidhu signed off by saying, “I have. And there may be a difference of opinion. But he is the soul of IPL. I say it with pride. I say it with a bang.” Notably, Kohli will be seen in action on Monday, April 7, when the RCB will take on Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 encounter at the Wankhede Stadium.

Notably, Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing IPL 2025 for RCB with 97 runs in three matches. He started IPL 2025 with an unbeaten 59 but managed only 31 and 7 in the next two games against CSK and GT. Kohli has been one of the most consistent batters in IPL history.

Kohli has played 32 matches against Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Over the years, he has scored 855 runs at an average of 30.53 and a strike rate of 126.85. While he hasn’t scored a century against MI, he has hit five half-centuries, with his best score being an unbeaten 92.
