New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, decided to give Australia skipper Aaron Finch a “guard of honour” as he walked out to bat in his final ODI.

Aaron Finch announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) on Saturday. He has struggled to score with the bat in the last 12 months in limited overs.

Kane Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bowl in the third and final ODI against Australia on Sunday, which is the last match for Australian captain Aaron Finch.

The hosts have already won the Chappell-Hadley series after winning the first match by two wickets on Tuesday, followed by a 113-run win over the Black Caps two days later. New Zealand made three changes, with Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips and Lockie Ferguson replace Matt Henry, Martin Guptill and Michael Bracewell.

It was Aaron Finch’s 146th and final ODI. With the series win, Australia rested opener David Warner, who was replaced by Josh Inglis. Marcus Stoinis is out with a side strain and is replaced by Cameron Green.

Finch’s final ODI innings did not go as expected, with Tim Southee dismissing him for 5 off 13 balls. It was the end of a successful career.

Virat Kohli and Aaron Finch shared the Royal Challengers Bangalore dressing room and he paid tribute to Finch in an Instagram comment.

The Indian star said it was great playing alongside the Australian opener for RCB. Kohli advised Finch to make the most of the next phase of his life.

“Well done Finchy. It was great to play against you all these years and with you as well at RCB. Enjoy the next phase of your life to the fullest,” said Kohli.

The 35-year-old played 145 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and led Australia in 54 of them. Finch made his One Day International debut in 2013 and scored 5041 runs with 17 centuries and 30 fifties at an average of 39.13. In his ODI career, the Australian opener was instrumental in Australia’s 2015 ICC World Cup victory.
