There was absolutely no stopping Nicholas Pooran on Monday (July 31) as he blew Seattle Orcas away to power MI New York to a thumping 7-wicket victory in the final of the first-edition of Major League Cricket (MLC). Leading the team in the absence of Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran played a captain’s knock in the final as he smashed an unbeaten century.
MI New York were set a target of 184 runs in 20 overs. The pressure was very much on them as the Orcas were on the front foot when the chase began. With Imad Wasim dismissing opener Steven Taylor for a 3-ball duck in the very first over, MI New York’s problems only increased.
But from thereon it was a one-way traffic as Nicholas Pooran played one of the finest knocks of all time to guide his team to a win. Thanks to his whirlwind knock, the New York-based outfit chased down the big total in only 16 overs and by losing three wickets.
Nicholas Pooran smashed an unbeaten 137 runs off just 55 balls with the help of 10 fours and 13 sixes. The West Indies star scored his fifty off just 16 balls while he reached his century off only 40 balls. It is the fastest century of the first edition of the MLC.
Nicholas Pooran takes Dwaine Pretorius to the cleaners:
No bowler from Seattle Orcas was spared as Nicholas Pooran took them to the cleaners right from the start. He made his intentions clear in the very first over of the chase by smashing Imad Wasim for two sixes. And it was the third over that made it clear that Nicholas Pooran was in stunning touch.
The left-handed batsman was up against South Africa star Dwaine Pretorius and just blew him away, hitting him for three sixes and two fours. Pretorius ended the over by conceding 28 runs.
