Watch: "No point in scoring 40s and 50s..." - Imad Wasim takes brutal dig at Babar Azam
Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has taken an indirect dig at the former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam for the latter’s inability to finish off games after being set. Babar Azam smashed three consecutive half-centuries against New Zealand in the recently concluded five-match T20I series. However, he failed to finish the game off in all three games and as a result, Pakistan lost the series against New Zealand by 1-4. Pakistan have lost both the series they have played after the ODI World Cup.
The Men in Green lost against New Zealand by 1-4 in the recently concluded T20I series and before that, they were whitewashed by the Australians in the three-match Test series. Pakistan cricket is in shambles and the recent defeats faced by them make everyone think about the future of this team. Babar Azam was one of the positives for Pakistan during the T20I series against New Zealand where he got three back-to-back fifties in the series.
However, Imad Wasim has indirectly taken a jibe at Babar Azam as he was unable to finish the game for Pakistan and could not stay at the crease till the end. Pakistan lost all three games where Babar Azam scored a half-century as he was not able to finish the game off for his team. Wasim said that there is no point in scoring consistently if one can’t finish the game for his team. A fifty in a losing cause is of no use and is a waste of innings according to Imad Wasim.
“There were situations where they could’ve finished it off but they were not able to. My point is if you’re scoring 40s and 50s, one has to finish the game off. There is no point in scoring 40s and 50s in a losing cause all the time. So, yeah the run rate shoots up and then obviously the middle order, lower-middle order couldn’t perform but someone needs to take responsibility in batting,” said Imad Wasim.

Babar Azam did not have a great 2023 as under his leadership Pakistan finished last in the Asia Cup Super 4 round and was eliminated in the round-robin stage of the ODI World Cup 2023. He was asked to step down as Pakistan’s all-format captain after the ODI World Cup. Now, Shaheen Shah Afridi is the new T20I skipper of Pakistan whereas Shan Masood is the new Test captain and both of them faced a shambolic defeat in their respective first series as Pakistan’s captain.
Babar Azam had a terrible outing in Australia where he failed to score a single fifty-plus score in the six innings he played. However, he found his batting touch with the white-ball as he was Pakistan’s highest run scorer in the series scoring 213 runs in five innings at an average of 42.60 which included three half-centuries in consecutive games.
