Pakistan, on Thursday (September 25), beat Bangladesh by 11 runs to book a place in the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. In a low-scoring match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Men in Green defended 135 runs to set up a mouthwatering clash against India in the title-decider.
The Men in Green came up with yet another poor batting performance, but made amends for it with a fine bowling display. Batting first, Pakistan could only score a modest total of 135/8 in the allotted 20 overs. They were off to a poor start as in-form Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub departed inside the first two overs.
Pakistan reach Asia Cup final
Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 49/5 in the 11th over. Even the 100-run mark looked like a distant dream at one stage, but crucial contributions from the likes of Mohammad Haris (31), Shaheen Afridi (19), Mohammad Nawaz (25), and Faheem Ashraf (14*) guided them to a respectable 130-plus total.
In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings on 124/9. Just like Pakistan, Bangladesh also kept losing wickets at regular intervals and never really looked in contention to chase down the total. Even before the end of the power play, they lost three wickets, including that of in-form Saif Hassan, and just could not recover after those early setbacks.
Shamim Hossain was the only Bangladesh batter to score more than 20 runs as he scored 30. However, he received little support from the other end as Bangladesh missed out on a great opportunity to qualify for the Asia Cup final for the first time since 2018.
Comedy of errors as Bangladesh star survives run-out scare
The Super 4s clash between the 2 Asian Giants witnessed a bizarre moment when two batsmen ended up at the same end but survived the run-out. The incident took place in the fifth over of Bangladesh's innings when Shaheen Afridi was bowling to Towhid Hridoy.
On the first ball of the over, Afridi bowled one outside the off stump, and Hridoy cut it hard towards backward point, where Saim Ayub came up with a brilliant diving effort to stop the ball.
In the meantime, Saif Hassan anticipated that the ball would easily go past Ayub and set off for a single.

Even before he could realise anything, he was standing beside Hridoy at the striker's end. Ayub quickly got up and threw the ball at the non-striker's end, but there was no fielding backing up. As a result, Hassan got the opportunity to return inside the crease safely.
