The iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) witnessed a funny moment during India’s second innings against Australia on Day 2 of the ongoing fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on Saturday, January 4, in Sydney.

Actually, the Australian captain and premier pacer, Pat Cummins, awkwardly fell on the ground while appealing for an LBW against Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing New Year's Test at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). And the most hilarious part was that Cummins was continuously appealing for LBW while falling on the ground.

Pat Cummins’ appeal for LBW turns into a hilarious tumble on Day 2 at SCG

The funny incident took place in the final ball of the 27th over against India. Pat Cummins bowled a good-length delivery that nipped back in sharply, surprising Ravindra Jadeja, who was expecting it to go the other way. Well, the ball missed the bat and hit Jadeja’s pads, as he attempted to play a shot.

The ball struck Ravindra Jadeja high on the pads, and Pat Cummins appealed for an LBW, even falling over while turning back. In the moment of excitement, the Australian skipper tumbled down in his follow-through as he continued to appeal.

However, the umpire turned down the appeal, judging that the ball was too high to be given out. In the viral video, Cummins was seen lying on the pitch after falling while appealing for an LBW against Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing final BGT 2024-25 encounter at the SCG.

Meanwhile, the ongoing New Year’s Test match has been fast-paced right from the start, with 11 wickets falling on Day 1 and 15 more on Day 2, as bowlers dominated throughout at the SCG. Despite Jasprit Bumrah bowling only 10 overs, India's bowlers put up a strong performance.

Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Reddy initially struggled, but they later helped India bowl out Australia for just 181 by taking five wickets together, giving India a narrow lead of 4 runs in the ongoing final BGT 2024-25 Test in Sydney. Beau Webster was the top scorer with a half-century for Australia.

India faces setbacks with Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and top-order woes

However, India's worries grew with Jasprit Bumrah undergoing scans after lunch due to a fitness issue. After India’s slim first-innings lead, the Australians were behind in the game at the SCG, but Scott Boland struck hard, reducing the tourists to 78/4 from 42/1 in the ongoing fifth and final Test.

Boland’s fiery spell made it tough for India, but then, Rishabh Pant took charge with a quick-fire 61 off 33 balls, pushing India to a lead of 145 by the end of the day. India still has four players, and they will have to add more runs on the board on Day 3 to strengthen their position in the match.

However, if the SCG pitch continues to play the same way, India could have the upper hand in the New Year’s Test against Australia, as they would be aiming to finish the tour on a high by retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Currently, Australia is leading the Test series by a 2-1 margin against India.
