A major disruption occurred near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, May 8, after an Indian drone reportedly crashed into a shop in the nearby Food Street area, just hours before a scheduled PSL 2025 match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings.
As reported by Pakistani media, an Indian drone hit a tree and crashed, damaging the shop’s windows. One civilian was injured in the incident and has been taken to the hospital.

Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), confirmed that drones were also disabled in Rawalpindi and Attock. The situation has raised serious concerns over security in the area as Pakistan Super League 2025 (PSL 2025) matches are scheduled at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

According to DG ISPR, at least 12 Indian drones were shot down in different cities across Pakistan, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Chakwal, Attock, Rawalpindi, Chhor, and Mianwali. Police and law enforcement agencies quickly arrived at the crash sites, sealed the areas, and seized the drone wreckage for investigation.

It led to injuries among Pakistan Army personnel in Lahore. In Sindh province, one civilian lost their life and another was injured. The DG ISPR added that heavy damage was inflicted on the enemy at the Line of Control (LoC). Security remains on high alert in those affected areas.
PSL 2025 in doubt as PCB calls emergency meeting after drone strike at Rawalpindi Stadium
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called an urgent meeting to decide the fate of the ongoing PSL 2025 matches after an Indian drone hit the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. It is being said that the talks are underway on whether to continue or postpone the tournament.

However, earlier on Wednesday, May 7, the PCB had announced that the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2025 will continue as scheduled despite almost the war breaking out with India.

In response to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Armed Forces launched missile strikes early Wednesday, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including those linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke.
After India’s successful ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Pakistan attacked Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, further escalating the cross-border tension. Despite the tense situation, a PCB official confirmed that no overseas player has asked to leave the PSL 2025 so far.
Foreign players stay committed to PSL 2025 amid cross-border tension between India and Pakistan
Media managers from several franchises have also confirmed that, stating that while the situation is worsening, none of their foreign players have requested to leave the tournament in the middle. Notably, each PSL team has around 5-6 overseas players.
The PCB had assured that all PSL 2025 matches will go ahead, including the Islamabad United vs. Quetta Gladiators game at Rawalpindi on May 7. Rawalpindi is also set to host PSL 2025 matches on May 8, 9, and 10, followed by the last group match in Multan on May 11.
The PSL 2025 playoffs will begin with the Qualifier in Rawalpindi on May 13, while the Eliminators and the Final will be played on May 14, 16, and 18 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
