South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock was sent packing to the pavilion in a weird and funny manner during Australia’s match against South Africa on Saturday. The two sides are fighting it out in the first match of the Super-12 stage in Abu Dhabi.

Having won the toss, Aaron Finch decided to put their opponents in to bat first. There were no major changes on either side as they stuck to their big guns for the match. The Proteas started off on a great note, with Temba Bavuma scoring 11 off Mitchell Starc’s first over.

Finch immediately turned to spin and Glenn Maxwell provided the breakthrough. Josh Hazlewood then dismissed the in-form Rassie van der Dussen with his first delivery. Soon after, he took another big wicket, this time of De Kock.

The South African ‘keeper tried to go for his trusted scoop shot against the pacy Hazlewood. With the fine leg in, it seemed like a safe shot. However, what followed was quite unexpected from everybody around.

Hazlewood’s length delivery hit De Kock on his body, lobbed up in the air, and slowly bounced next to the stumps before knocking the bails off. De Kock stood and watched in horror as he had no idea where the ball was. It was a huge dismissal for the South Africans as they were three wickets down in the powerplay.
