Afghanistan, on Sunday (June 23), registered a historic win over Australia as they beat them by 21 runs to get back to winning ways in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

After losing their first Super 8 game against India earlier this week, Afghanistan stunned the reigning Test and ODI world champions to reignite their chances of qualifying for the semifinal. The win is Afghanistan's first-ever win over Australia in any format.

The Rashid Khan-led side needed a victory at all costs to keep their campaign alive and the Afghan players responded in style. Asked to bat first, Afghanistan finished their innings on a competitive total of 148 for 6. Both of their openers - Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran - scored half-centuries and shared a 118-run stand for the first wicket to help their team post a good total.

In reply, Australia were bowled out for just 127 runs. Naveen-ul-Haq gave Australia a flying start by castling in-form Travis Head for a duck in the very first over and Afghanistan did not look back after that. Glenn Maxwell did score a half-century but Afghanistan kept taking wickets at regular intervals to stay on the front foot and eventually went on to win the game with ease.

The special moment called for a special celebration and the Afghanistan players celebrated their famous win over Australia in style. A video of the players dancing on the team bus after the game has gone viral on social media. Rashid Khan and his teammates were seen dancing to their coach, Dwayne Bravo's iconic song, 'Champion'. The video of the brilliant celebration was shared first by Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi.
