Star Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan is not only known for his wily leg spin bowling but for his extraordinary cricketing shots as well. The bowling allrounder always ensures to entertain the crowd whenever he gets a chance to show his batting abilities.

The 25-year-old played another breathtaking shot in the ongoing Hundred 2024 competition during the match between Welsh Fire and Trent Rockets played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

While playing for Trent Rockets, Rashid Khan came in to bat at No. 6 after Rovman Powell was dismissed off the 77th ball of the match by Haris Rauf. Rashid was beaten by a slower ball in his first ball but came back to hit a scintillating four in the next one.

Playing just his second ball, Rashid moved a long way across his stumps. Rauf bowled a full ball angling into leg stump which Rashid nonchalantly flicked it through short fine leg for a four. His shot reminded me of the famous helicopter shot discovered by MS Dhoni.

Rashid Khan was dismissed for a quickfire 13 off just 8 balls, which included a four and a six. Earlier, he had a rare ordinary day with the ball as he went for 0-33 in his spell of 20 balls.

Coming to the match, Trent Rockets won the toss and elected to field first. Luke Wells and Joe Clarke were dismissed early but Jonny Bairstow stayed at one end and kept the scoreboard ticking along.

Skipper Tom Abell played a good cameo in the middle order as he scored 33 off 26 balls. Bairstow was dismissed for a well-made 55 off 45 balls with 7 fours and 1 six as Welsh Fire ended their innings on 129-6 on a tricky pitch. Imad Wasim and Sam Cook had a good day with the ball as they picked up two wickets each.

Trent Rockets fall agonizingly short of the target

Chasing 130 to win, Trent Rockets got off to a good start with 36 runs in the first 27 balls of the innings. But they lost openers Tom Banton and Alex Hales in quick succession. Joe Root tried to resurrect the innings but was run out for 17.

All the top six batters of the Rockets got starts but none of them could convert them into a significant score. Rovman Powell looked good to finish off the game for his team with the bat but was dismissed by Haris Rauf. Powell scored 14 runs with a four and a six to his name.

Rashid Khan played a few attractive shots in the end but the Rockets fell short of the target by 4 runs. David Payne and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets apiece for Welsh Fire.
