The India National Cricket Team continued their ritual of honoring the best fielder of the match after they thrashed Australia by four wickets in the semifinal to march into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final on Tuesday, March 4, in Dubai.

After the thrilling victory over Australia, the atmosphere of the dressing room was quite jolly, as the fielding coach T. Dilip announced the contenders to win the Fielder of the Match medal while hailing the remarkable efforts of the players on the field in the semifinal.

The fielding coach mentioned that every run was hard-earned, and that showed a perfect mix of skill and determination of the Indian star. While announcing the first contender, T. Dilip said in the video shared by the Indian cricket team on Instagram, “With the ripper of the throw to get that target, the absolute bullet is Shreyas Iyer.”

Praising the second contender, the coach said, “Every game he keeps on showing what exactly it means to be outstanding with his feet. The way he literally put his net in his bone bowling, covering his no-run, has given him to Ravindra Jadeja.” The third contender was Shubman Gill, who took the crucial catch of Travis Head.

The fielding coach then revealed the final contender, and he was none other than Virat Kohli. Dilip said of Kohli: “He is our continuous contender in everything, whatever he does, with those couple of catches but also the intent at which he keeps doing every day, day in, day out, not only with the bat but also on the field.”

The fielding coach later invited the former Indian head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri to announce the winner of the Fielder of the Match award. The former Indian captain hailed the Men in Blue for their efforts before announcing Shreyas Iyer as the winner of the honor.

Ravi Shastri hails India’s teamwork, crowns Shreyas Iyer as Fielder of the Match

Shastri said, “The heavyweight medal, it's heavy; it goes to Shreyas Iyer.”

In his speech, the former Indian coach has emphasized that individual brilliance can’t win the matches, but teamwork leads to victory. He praised the Indian team's character, fielding efforts, and dominance, urging them to finish the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with glory.

Shastri said in the video, “Individual brilliance will take you only to a certain level, but it's a collective team effort that will take you across the finishing line. When champions play, and today two champions were playing, pressure game, character shown, team effort. Flashes of brilliance in the field always make a difference; normally, it's the turning point. It's a pressure game; you're by far the best team in this tournament so far. One more to go. Well done.”
