Ravichandran Ashwin, on Thursday (September 19), scored a brilliant century to bail India out of trouble in the ongoing first India vs Bangladesh Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
India were staring down the barrel after they were asked to bat first. Hasan Mahmud blew India's top order away by taking three wickets in the first session. He dismissed Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) in quick succession to reduce India to 34 for 3.
The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) got the starts but could not score big as India found themselves reeling at 144 for 6 at one stage. After the fall of the sixth wicket, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja joined hands and rescued the team with a big partnership.
They have shared an unbeaten stand of 195 runs as India ended day one on 339/6. Ravichandran Ashwin was unbeaten on 102 off 112 balls while Jadeja was unbeaten on 86 runs from 117 balls.
Ashwin completed his century in the 78th over when he took a single off Shakib Al Hasan. And as soon as he completed the run, he received a well-deserved standing ovation from his teammates. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and the other players and coaches were on their feet, applauding Ravichandran Ashwin for his brilliant knock.
