Virat Kohli, on Thursday (June 27), failed to score big in the ongoing semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 as he was clean bowled by Reece Topley.

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bowl first after a wet outfield delayed the start of the game by more than an hour. All eyes were on Virat Kohli when he came out to open the innings as the former India skipper has endured a tough campaign with the bat in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

In the group stage, he could manage only 5 runs from 3 games, registering scores of 1, 4 and 0. In the first two Super 8 games, he got the starts but could not convert them. The batting superstar scored 24 against Afghanistan before being out for 37 against Bangladesh. In the third Super 8 game, he could not even open his account and registered his second duck of the tournament.

Virat Kohli has a reputation for delivering in the big games and many were expecting him to get back to his best in the semifinal against England. However, the India opener had a disappointing outing again as he was dismissed by Reece Topley for just 9 runs.

In the third over of the game, he hit the left-arm pacer for a six but the England pacer had the last laugh. Just two balls later, he clean-bowled Virat Kohli to give England the first breakthrough in the game.

On the fourth ball of the over, Topley bowled on a good length and the ball moved back in at the last moment. Virat Kohli stayed on the leg side to make room for himself and wanted to hit the ball towards mid-wicket but was completely beaten and the ball went on to crash into the stumps.
