Watch: Rishabh Pant delivers epic response to Australian cricketers wanting him on their side

India's star wicketkeeper-batter has scripted many historic wins in his short international career. One of those famous victories was the one at Gabba in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India.

Pant led India's fightback on the fifth day of the Test when they were chasing a daunting total of 328 in the fourth innings against a highly efficient Australian bowling attack. At various stages during the day, India found itself in a spot of bother.

However, Pant stayed at one end and kept on playing his natural game and took the attack to the opposition. Despite wickets falling at the other end, the young wicketkeeper showed his class and finished with 89 off 138 balls to take India past the finish line. He struck 9 fours and 1 six during this historic knock.

Rishabh Pant speaks on the knock at Gabba

Recently, during a Star Sports event, Rishabh Pant was asked about several Aussies picking him as the Indian player who is most Australian. He replied by saying that he can't praise himself.

He further claimed that there are some performances that go on to be remembered for a lifetime and his knock at the Gabba was one of those knocks.

"I don't have an answer for this. Apni tareef thodi naa kar sakte hain (I can't praise myself). You have to praise me. I try to do my best. Sometimes, there are performances which are remembered for the lifetime. So, these are some of those performances and one of them is Gabba," Pant said at the event.

The pitch was not an easy one to bat but Rishabh Pant kept playing an aggressive brand of cricket. He took the Australian bowlers on with a fearless attitude. His gameplay against Nathan Lyon was particularly commendable on the day he was expected to be most threatening.

Further, Rishabh Pant revealed the golden words by Rohit Sharma after the match. According to Pant, Rohit told him about the magnitude of the knock and how it will be remembered for years.

"When it happened, I also didn't knew. Rohit (Sharma) bhai was there and he told me, 'Tujhe nahi pata tune kya kara hai (You don't know what you have done)'. I replied back by saying that we have just won this match," Rishabh Pant explained.

"Then, he told me that you will get to know about it in some years. So, wherever I go now and I hear about it, then I get to know what actually has happened," he added.

India clinched historic series win

India went on to win an outstanding match and series and Pant fittingly hit winning runs. Pant was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant performance with the bat. It was a series where India's bench strength was tested to its limit.

But the youngsters performed exceedingly well and showed how talented the upcoming group of cricketers are. Apart from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, every other player in the squad was injured or did not play all the matches due to other reasons.

Rishabh Pant is likely to be an important player for India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series as well. The wicketkeeper-batter is in sensational form and will pose a threat to Australia in their own conditions.
