Shubman Gill notably wasn't named in the Indian XI for the first Test against the Australia National Cricket. This was because the batter suffered a thumb injury during the three-day match simulation of the team. In his absence, Devdutt Padikkal batted at No.3.

The Karnataka batter didn't have a great outing with the bat in the first innings. He bagged a 23-ball duck and now would be hoping to make an impact in the second innings. Shubman Gill, who has slammed over 800 Test runs this year, is expected to be fit for the second game.
