Rishabh Pant losing the grip on his bat is nothing new. Time and again, the India wicketkeeper-batsman has lost his bat while trying to play a big shot and he was at it again on Saturday (July 27) while batting in the ongoing first T20I between Sri Lanka and India at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The incident took place in the 19th over of the India innings when a well-set Rishabh Pant was trying to hit every ball out of the park. And in doing so, he ended up losing his bat. It was the fourth ball of the over and Matheesha Pathirana bowled one on the pads.
Rishabh Pant wanted to hit the ball behind square and swung the bat hard. As a result, he lost his bat. The bat went flying towards square leg. At the same time, he had also managed to hit the ball past the fielder at short fine leg for four runs.

On the very next ball after the incident, Pathirana cleaned up Rishabh Pant with a slower delivery. The wicketkeeper departed after scoring 49 runs from 33 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. Talking about the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first.
India were off to a great start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill sharing a 74-run stand for the first wicket. Both the openers then departed on successive deliveries with Gill scoring 34 and Jaiswal scoring 40. India were in a spot of bother after losing two set batsmen on two deliveries before captain Suryakumar Yadav came up with a brilliant knock.
The right-handed batsman scored a whirlwind fifty to put India in the driver's seat again. He scored 58 runs from just 26 balls before being dismissed by Pathirana.
In reply, Sri Lanka were off to a great start as well. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka added 84 runs for the first wicket before Arshdeep Singh dismissed the former to give India a much-needed breakthrough. At the time of writing this report, Sri Lanka were on 102/1 in the 11th over.
