Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant questioned on-field umpire Chris Gaffaney over the ball change on Day 3 of the first Test against England at Headingley. However, the umpire dismissed the complaint about the condition of the ball, leading to frustration for Pant during the opening session of the day.
India got an early breakthrough on Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley as pacer Prasidh Krishna dismissed Ollie Pope in the third over of the morning. Prasidh delivered a short and wide ball outside off. Pope attempted a cut but edged it to Rishabh Pant, who completed a clean catch behind the stumps.

Overnight batter Harry Brook and captain Ben Stokes frustrated the Indian bowlers with their partnership. The incident occurred just before the final delivery of the 61st over. Rishabh Pant showed clear frustration over the condition of the ball.
After the on-field umpire checked it using the gauge and decided not to replace it, Pant, visibly annoyed, flicked the ball away in frustration. His reaction drew boos from the Leeds crowd and may attract the attention of the match referee for dissent.

Jasprit Bumrah was the first to raise concerns over the condition of the ball. The ball had lost all movement, neither swinging conventionally nor reversing, after 60 overs. Pant approached the umpire after Harry Brook dispatched a boundary off Mohammed Siraj in the 61st over.
Mohammed Siraj Removes Ben Stokes with Old Ball in 65th Over
Mohammed Siraj provided India with a much-needed breakthrough by removing England captain Ben Stokes in the 65th over. Stokes and Harry Brook were handling the old ball comfortably, with Jasprit Bumrah not in the attack and the rest of the Indian bowlers struggling to generate movement.
However, Siraj produced a moment of brilliance, getting the ball to move slightly from around the wicket. Stokes attempted a tentative shot towards the off-side but edged it to Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.
Visibly frustrated with himself, Stokes reacted by tossing his bat in the air as he walked back after scoring 20 off 52 balls. His dismissal left England at 276 for 5 in their first innings.
Rishabh Pant Becomes Third Most Successful Test Wicketkeeper for India
After taking Ollie Pope’s catch, Rishabh Pant reached a major milestone by completing 150 catches in Test cricket. He became only the third Indian wicketkeeper to achieve the feat, joining MS Dhoni (256) and Syed Kirmani (160).
Pant reached the landmark in his 44th Test and 86th innings, and now has 165 dismissals in Tests, including 15 stumpings. He is expected to surpass Kirmani during the ongoing five-match series.
A day earlier, Pant set another record by becoming the Indian wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries, surpassing Dhoni. He brought up his seventh hundred and fourth against England, scoring 134 runs off 178 balls, including 12 boundaries and six maximums.
