Riyan Parag Bizarre No Ball

Riyan Parag, on Wednesday (October 9), bowled a bizarre no-ball during the second T20I between India and Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi,

The incident took place in the 11th over of Bangladesh's innings when the youngster delivered his first over. Veteran Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah, who recently announced his retirement from T20Is, welcomed Riyan Parag into the attack by hitting him for a huge six over long-on.

On the next two balls, the allrounder conceded two singles before delivering the no-ball. In order to avoid giving any sort of room or bounce to Mahmudullah, Riyan Parag decided to bowl a flatter delivery with a slingy action.

He was well wide of the crease and ended up delivering a back-foot no-ball. The on-field umpires had a brief conversation with the third umpire before they adjudged the delivery a no-ball. Parag's back foot was well outside the return crease.

As per the law, 'For a delivery to be fair in respect of the feet, in the delivery stride … the bowler’s back foot must land within and not touching the return crease appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery.'

Riyan did well to not concede any run off the bat on the no-ball. He then went on to bowl a dot delivery on the free hit as well. Later on the final ball of the over, the Assam youngster dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz to reduce Bangladesh to 80 for 5.

Talking about the game, Bangladesh were on 120/8 in the 18th over at the time of writing this report. The tourists are chasing an improbable 222 runs to win the ongoing game and draw level in the three-match series. In the first T20I, Bangladesh had suffered a seven-wicket loss.

Earlier in the game, India recovered from a poor start to post a daunting total of 221/9 thanks to half-centuries from Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh. Asked to bat first, the home side was reeling at 41/3 inside the powerplay before Reddy and Rinku shared a 108-run stand for the fourth wicket. Reddy departed after scoring 74 runs off 34 balls while Rinku scored 53 runs from only 29 balls.
