Rohit Sharma's toss curse continued, as New Zealand won the toss and as expected opted to bat first in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (March 9). Rohit Sharma's luck at the toss remained unchanged, putting him in the unwanted record books.

The Indian captain has now lost 12 consecutive tosses in ODIs, a streak that has been continued since the 2013 ODI World Cup. After losing the toss in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final, Rohit has equaled the unwanted record set by West Indies legend Brian Lara.

In the viral moment, the Indian skipper could be seen helpless after losing the toss for the record 12th time, and was even seen sending the signal to the dressing room by saying: “No toss for me, man. No toss”. But Rohit’s mood was absolutely joyous before the title clash in Dubai.

It hasn't changed much, we've chased and won as well: Rohit Sharma on lossing the toss

Rohit said at the toss: “We've been here enough, batted first and bowled first, don't really mind batting second. It hasn't changed much, we've chased and won as well. It does give you a lot of confidence, takes the toss away from the game. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. That's what we've spoken about in the dressing room: not to worry about the toss and to just play well. That's what we've done, and we have to do today as well.”

Earlier, Rohit became the first ever captain to reach the final in all four ICC tournaments - the WTC 2023, ODI World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025. However, New Zealand holds a 3-1 edge over India in ICC knockout matches.

The Black Caps have won the 2000 Champions Trophy final, 2019 World Cup semifinal, and 2021 WTC final, while the Men in Blue’s only win came in the 2023 World Cup semifinal. Well, Matt Henry’s absence will have a big impact on the Kiwi’s bowling attack in the final against India.
