The India National Cricket Team player Shreyas Iyer produced an unbelievable direct hit to dismiss the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team player Kamindu Mendis in the second ODI of the three-match series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 4.

Shreyas Iyer is regarded as one of the fielders in the Indian team and he is equally effective in taking catches as well as producing run outs. He showcased sheer brilliance in the first innings of the second match of the series.

On the second last ball of the first innings, Arshdeep Singh bowled a short ball to Kamindu Mendis outside off-stump and he hooked it. The ball dropped in front of Shreyas Iyer who came in running from deep midwicket.

The Indian star was very quick to pick up the ball and release a gun throw at the batter's end. Shreyas Iyer only had one stump visible from his angle, but he aimed at it perfectly and hit the bullseye. The Sri Lankan batter Kamindu was taken by surprise with the direct hit.

Also, India captain Rohit Sharma clapped for Iyer's fielding efforts and looked quite astonished as well. Meanwhile, Kamindu Mendis walked back to the dugout after scoring 40 runs off 44 balls, with 4 fours.

How Did Indian Bowlers Perform In 1st ODI?

The bowlers of the India National Cricket Team did a good job in the series-opening clash on August 2 in Colombo. The Men In Blue were invited to bowl first and the responsibility fell on the bowling unit to deliver and restrict the opposition team to a low total.

In the second over itself, Mohammed Siraj cleaned up Avishka Fernando for 1. Soon, Shivam Dube removed Kusal Mendis in the 14th over, and the next three wickets fell in quick succession, which saw the Lankan Lions tottering at 5-101.

Rohit Sharma then tried to use all his weapons but was not successful in dismissing Dunith Wellalage. The youngster took on the Indian bowlers with confidence and made sure his team posted a fighting total on the board.

Overall, Rohit used seven bowling options in the match, including one over from part-timer Shubman Gill, who conceded 14 runs, and it turned out to be a game-changer in the end.

The left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and the left-arm spinner Axar Patel picked up two wickets each for India. Also, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shivam Dube bagged one wicket each to restrict Sri Lanka to 230/8. The best performer in the match was Axar with his figures of 10-0-33-2. However, in the end, a poor performance from the batters saw the match being tied.
