India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma had a torrid outing with the bat in the ongoing second Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The game between the teams is underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

India had a worst possible start with the bat after they ended New Zealand's innings on 259 runs. It was expected that the skipper Rohit Sharma would take his team to a decent start and would end the day on high for his team. But that wasn't the case as he was back in the hut early.

Rohit couldn't get going at all as he was made to get stuck on the crease by the New Zealand National Cricket Team bowlers. After playing the first over maiden, he was back in the hut, and the credit for that goes to the veteran pacer Tim Southee, who yet again removed India's skipper.

Tim Southee bowled a good length ball around middle and off. Rohit Sharma looked to defend from the crease but was opened up as it nipped away a touch. The ball went past the edge and clipped the top of the off stump after a slight deflection off the back pad.

Rohit Sharma was completely squared up in defense as the ball moved away off the seam. The batter looked in absolute shock and the crowd at the stadium went completely silent as the batter took the long walk back to the pavilion with a 9-ball duck under his belt.

Rohit Sharma struggles to register to big score

Rohit hasn't been able to live up to the expectations in Test cricket. He has looked in good touch but hasn't been able to make a big impact on the team. The opening batter couldn't make a bigger impact in the series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

After that, he bagged yet another failure in the first innings of the first Test against New Zealand but managed to reach fifty in the second innings. With him now bagging duck in the ongoing game, his form would be a concern for the team going into the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

India had a decent day with the bat and ball in the ongoing first Test

India had a decent day with the bat and ball in the ongoing first Test. Asked to field first, they bundled out the opposition for 259 runs. Washington Sundar, who made his return to the team after 45 months, was the star with the ball for the Rohit Sharma-led side.

Washington Sundar returned with the career-best figures of 7/59. Along with him, Ravichandran Ashwin was also amongst the wickets. The senior player picked three wickets as the India National Cricket Team ensured that they got to bat on Day 1 itself.

After Rohit got out, Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) and Shubman Gill (10) held the fort for the team. At Stumps on Day 1, India was 16/1 and was behind 243 runs of New Zealand's score.
