India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma came up with a shocking statement after his team faced a series defeat at home after 12 years. He said that with the kind of cricket they have played at home, they are allowed to have one bad series.
India National Cricket Team had a poor outing in the first two Tests against the New Zealand National Cricket Team and it saw them losing the series with one match to go. This saw the team facing a lot of criticism, especially with the last Test series loss at home coming against England in 2012.
India National Cricket Team got all out for 156 runs in the first innings
India, who suffered a disappointing loss in the Bengaluru Test, faced another horrible loss in the next game. They lost the game by a massive margin of 113 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, and this also saw them losing crucial points in the World Test Championship.
Rohit Sharma and his men displayed a horrible batting performance, and that was the major reason why they suffered a poor loss in the second Test. After New Zealand posted a total of 259 runs, they couldn't go past their score at all.
India National Cricket Team got all out for 156 runs, conceding a lead of over 100 runs. After that, they couldn't take early wickets as the visitors took a massive lead of over 350 runs. It was then expected that they would come up with a better batting performance with the bat in the second innings.
Rohit Sharma and his team fail to chase the target
But it wasn't the case, as Rohit Sharma and his team came up with another poor effort. The skipper got out for 8 runs. After that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill (23) and added 62 runs for the second wicket.
After that, Mitchell Santner, yet again, was all over batters, picking another fifer in the game. Ravichandran Ashwin (18) and Ravindra Jadeja (42) came up with the handy 39-run partnership. But India couldn't go past the total.
Rohit Sharma, after the loss, came up with a bizarre statement, saying that they were allowed to have the collapse. He said that had they had regular collapses, they wouldn't have had a streak of 12 years at home. He said that in India they are expected to win every game.
Watch: Itna collapses agar 12 saal se ho raha tha toh shayad hum jeet hi nahi paate - Rohit Sharma
"Humko 12 saal mein ek baar to allowed hai yaar. Itna collapses agar 12 saal se ho raha tha toh shayad hum jeet hi nahi hai paate. India me humara expectations bahut rehta hai, ki hum jo bhi match khelenge, jeetna he hai. Humne hi aadat banaya hai wo, aap logo ka galti nahi hai, itna accha cricket Indian team ne khela hai to wo expectations ek level ke uppar chala gaya hai," Rohit Sharma said.
(We are allowed one such performance in 12 years. If we were collapsing like this on a regular basis then we would not have been winning at home. We have a lot of expectations. We are expected to win every game at our home, and it is because of our performances)."
