Team India enjoyed a grand welcome in the country on Thursday (July 4) after they finally landed on home soil following the victory in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The party started as soon as the Indian team landed at the IGI airport in New Delhi. Even though they touched down at the airport in the early hours, the fans gathered in large numbers to welcome them. A huge crowd of fans cheered the victorious team outside the airport as well as the hotel.

The Indian team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in the national capital before leaving for Mumbai for a victory parade. The parade started at the Marine Drive and ended at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The street was filled with thousands of fans who patiently waited for the players to give them a rousing reception after the World Cup win.

The players were in an open-top bus during the parade and were seen enjoying the electric atmosphere. At the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit Sharma and his teammates did a victory lap around the ground. They were also seen singing and dancing with the crowd as they enjoyed the victory celebration to the fullest. The BCCI also felicitated the players and handed over the Rs 125 prize money to the team.

And on Friday (July 5), the BCCI also posted the video of Rohit Sharma placing the T20 World Cup trophy in the BCCI headquarters. The India captain was also accompanied by BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah during the special ceremony.

Rohit Sharma retires:

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the T20Is after the World Cup win. Apart from him, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from the shortest format of the game as well. Rohit made his T20I debut way back in 2007 and was a part of the Indian team that had won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.

He retires as the all-time highest run-scorer in T20Is. Rohit is also the only Indian player who has won the T20 World Cup twice. The right-handed batsman starred in the victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
