India captain Rohit Sharma left his fellow captains and the audience in splits with his hilarious reaction to a question during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Captains Day event on Wednesday (October 4). The event is taking place in Ahmedabad, the venue for the World Cup opener, scheduled to take place on Thursday (October 5).

As the teams gear up for the thirteenth edition of the ODI World Cup, one journalist decided to talk about the last edition. He asked Rohit Sharma about England winning the trophy on the virtue of having scored more boundaries than New Zealand. England won their first-ever ODI World Cup in a dramatic fashion.

The thrilling final was tied twice. Both the teams scored 241 in their 50 overs and were level 15 in the super over before the winner was decided by the boundary count rule. With England hitting 26 boundaries compared to New Zealand’s 17, they were adjudged the winners of the World Cup.

Rohit Sharma’s hilarious response:

Four years after the dramatic match, the journalist decided to speak about it during the Captains Day event. He asked Rohit Sharma whether both the teams should have been adjudged winners after the tied game. And as soon as the journalist finished asking the question, Rohit Sharma’s hilarious facial expression said it all as he was seen saying ‘Kya yaar’.

He made it crystal clear that he was not at all happy with the bizarre question and his reaction left the audience as well as Pakistan captain Babar Azam in splits. With a confused Jos Buttler and smiling Babar Azam looking at Rohit Sharma, the India skipper said: “It is not my task sir [to declare the winner]. “

Rohit Sharma on being a leader:

During the same event, Rohit Sharma also spoke on leadership. While he has been leading the India team for just over a year, he is not new to captaincy.  The batting superstar has been leading Mumbai Indians since 2013 in IPL and is one of the most successful captains in the history of the competition.

“I had to work on a lot of things. To be a leader, you need to understand your teammates, their strengths and weaknesses, and give them the freedom to go out and play. Our job is to make sure we lay that platform for them and then it’s their job to go and do what they do best,” said Rohit Sharma.

The World Cup gets underway on Thursday with the mouth-watering clash between England and New Zealand. India will open their campaign on Sunday (October 6) against Australia in Chennai.
