Many believe family members often attend landmark matches, leading to fresh discussion about whether it could be Rohit's final ODI appearance. Only Rohit and those close to him know what lies ahead.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik recently broke the silence on Rohit's retirement rumors. Karthik said that 'not all fairy tales have a happy ending' while reacting to Rohit's retirement rumours.

Rohit Sharma Not At His Best in 2026

Rohit Sharma has not been at his best in 2026. He has scored only one half-century this year. The batter also had an average IPL season, raising questions about his future. At 39, Rohit will be 40 by the time India play the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa.

However, Rohit is one of India's greatest ODI batters. Many consider him the country's best ODI opener because of his record and performances in ICC tournaments. He was also in excellent form in 2025, and his retirement speculation has surprised many fans.

During the second ODI against England after Rohit scored 26 off 47 balls. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee had informed him he was no longer part of India's plans. The Indian Express report also claimed Rohit later met BCCI officials, with the final decision left to him.

The selectors and head coach Gautam Gambhir had been discussing Rohit's future since IPL 2026. They reportedly want to use the remaining ODIs before the 2027 World Cup to test younger players, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia Dismisses Rohit Sharma Retirement Rumors

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an official clarification. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed reports that the selectors had decided to end Sharma's ODI career after the third ODI against England at Lord's.

“There are a lot of speculations going on in the media about Rohit Sharma’s future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday. Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team, and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match."
