Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) due to a hairline fracture of the elbow. In Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence, MS Dhoni will captain Chennai Super Kings in the rest of the IPL 2025.
Gaikwad was forced to bat at number three, and he failed to blaze all the guns. However, he was Chennai Super Kings’ second-highest run-scorer with 122 runs at a strike rate of 150.61 in the five games so far in the ongoing IPL 2025, but was not seen at his usual best with the bat.
Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of IPL 2025 with elbow injury
Amidst his struggle at number three, Gaikwad and CSK struck with a major blow as the Maharashtra skipper will miss the rest of the season due to an elbow injury that he sustained during his team’s narrow six-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.
The right-handed batter got hit on his unprotected elbow while trying to play a fast delivery from Tushar Deshpande during the second over of CSK's failed run chase against the RR in Guwahati. Despite the painful blow, he kept batting and went on to score 63 runs in that match.
After that, Gaikwad played two more games, scoring 5 runs against Delhi Capitals in Chennai on April 5 and just 1 run against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 8. However, Ruturaj will be with the team during the 2025 season and cheer for them from the dugout.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Footvolley video goes viral after injury blow
Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad was seen playing footvolley on the sidelines of CSK’s practice session after being ruled out of the tournament. In footvolley, players are allowed to use any part of their body except their hands and arms to play the ball, and that’s what Gaikwad was seen doing.
Presently, a video is making rounds on social media, where Ruturaj Gaikwad can be seen enjoying footvolley with football along with CSK players and staff at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Currently, the Men in Yellow are gearing up for their next IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at the same venue in Chennai on Friday, April 11.

CSK looks to revive its campaign after a poor start to the IPL 2025
Well, Chennai Super Kings lost four of their first five matches so far in the ongoing IPL 2025. They are currently ninth in the points table, just above Sunrisers Hyderabad.
After their home game against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, CSK plays two away games against Lucknow Super Giants on April 14 at Ekana Cricket Stadium and Mumbai Indians on April 20 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
They will then face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 at the Chepauk Stadium. The Chennai Super Kings still have chances to make the cut to the IPL 2025 playoffs, and if the team clicks under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, they can be dangerous as they used to be under the iconic captain in the tournament.
Notably, Dhoni had won the IPL title as captain in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023 with the CSK. He also won two Champions League trophies.
