Sunrisers Hyderabad keeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen made a big blunder behind the stumps during the ongoing game against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The game between the two teams is underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The incident happened on the 5th ball of the 7th over when Zeeshan Ansari was bowling to Ryan Rickelton. The leg-spinner bowled a delivery to which the Mumbai Indians batter slapped towards the cover, having failed to score off the previous three balls.
The ball went very fast towards Pat Cummins, who was at the covers. The Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper moved to his right and took a brilliant catch to give Zeeshan Ansari his first wicket and put pressure on the Mumbai Indians as they lost both their openers.
However, as Ryan Rickelton walked back to the dressing room, he was called back, and the ball was adjudged as a no-ball. The third umpire checked and found that Heinrich Klaasen had his gloves in front of the sticks when the ball made contact with the bat.
It was an extremely sloppy effort from Heinrich Klaasen as Ryan Rickelton got another life. Zeeshan Ansari was extremely unlucky, and the reaction on his face was a sullen expression.

The blunder by Heinrich Klaasen didn't cost Sunrisers Hyderabad much as Rickelton got out in next over
Thankfully, the blunder by Heinrich Klaasen didn't cost Sunrisers Hyderabad much as Ryan Rickelton then was back in the hut in the very next over. He played an innings of 31 runs off 23 balls, slamming five boundaries during his stay at the crease.
After he got out, Will Jacks (36) played a brilliant hand with the bat. Suryakumar Yadav (26), Hardik Pandya (21) and Tilak Varma ( 21*) did further carnage as Mumbai Indians chased the target with four wickets in hand. This was their second consecutive win in the league. They are 7th on points table and will next seen in action against Chennai Super Kings.
Why was Ryan Rickelton given not out after the blunder by Heinrich Klaasen
According to the MCC laws of the game, a wicketkeeper is only allowed to touch the ball behind the stumps. Here's what the rules state:
27.3.1 The wicket-keeper shall remain wholly behind the wicket at the striker’s end from the moment the ball comes into play until a ball delivered by the bowler touches the bat or person of the striker or passes the wicket at the striker’s end or the striker attempts a run.
27.3.2 In the event of the wicket-keeper contravening this Law, the striker’s end umpire shall call and signal No ball as soon as applicable after the delivery of the ball.
