The KCA Secretary XI, led by Sanju Samson, defeated Sachin Baby’s KCA President XI by just one wicket in a thrilling friendly T20 at Greenfield Stadium ahead of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025. Samson scored a half-century for his team, sending positive signals ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

Sanju Samson’s team made an early impact after choosing to bowl first, reducing the opposition to 49/3 within six overs. One of the key wickets was skipper Sachin Baby, who was dismissed for a duck after edging a delivery to slip.
Samson, who had handed wicketkeeping duties to Vishnu Vinod, was stationed at first slip and pulled off a sensational one-handed catch. The stunning effort quickly went viral on social media, with fans lauding his brilliance in the field.

KCA President’s XI Post 184/8 in Thrilling Contest
KCA President’s XI posted a challenging total of 184/8 in their 20 overs. Rohan Kunnummal scored a quickfire 60 runs off 29 balls, with 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Abhijith Praveen smashed 47 off just 18 deliveries, with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Mohammed Azharuddeen and captain Sachin Baby fell cheaply, but the middle order revived the innings. M D Nidheesh added an unbeaten 29 runs off 22 balls.
For the Secretary XI, Sharafudheen was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/25, while Sijomon Joseph struck twice to keep the opposition in check. Despite regular wickets, the President’s XI showed their aggressive batting to finish on a high note. Notably, Sanju Samson fielded in the outfield.

Secretary’s XI reached the target with just two balls to spare. Vishnu Vinod gave his team a flying start during the chase. He scored 69 off just 29 balls with the help of 5 fours and 7 sixes.
Sanju Samson came in at No. 4 and helped steady the chase. The right-handed batter scored 54 off 36 balls even as wickets kept falling. With eight balls left and 13 runs still needed, Samson was dismissed.
Basil Thampi finished the game with a six, sealing a thrilling win. It was a special innings for Samson, coming just before the 2025 Asia Cup, with talks about his spot in India’s squad heating up.
