Samson was part of Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad but did not play during the tournament. Rishabh Pant was preferred as the wicketkeeper-batter, and Samson remained on the bench throughout the event. India defeated South Africa in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Sanju Samson Was Not Named In Duleep Trophy Squads
Samson was left out of all four squads for the 17th edition of the Duleep Trophy. The BCCI announced the squads for the first round earlier this week, featuring Indian players such as Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer. The tournament will be played from September 5 to 22 in Anantapur and Bengaluru.
Ishan Kishan, who has been out of the Indian team, will participate in the Duleep Trophy. Kishan has made a strong start in domestic cricket with a century in the Buchi Babu tournament. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh following the Test series at home.
Play Whenever They Select Me - Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson’s omission from India’s ODI squad surprised many, especially since he scored 108 against South Africa in his last match. At a press conference for the Kerala Cricket League, Samson highlighted the team's success over individual selection and stated that he wants to focus on contributing positively.
"I will just go and play whenever they select me," Samson said.

He has amassed 444 T20I runs at a disappointing average of 19.3.
