Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was involved in a terrible mix-up with Sarfaraz Khan during India's second innings of the series opener against New Zealand. Rishabh Pant had a lucky escape in the first session on Day 4, as he narrowly escaped a run-out following a mix-up with Sarfaraz Khan.

New Zealand posted a total of 402 runs in their first innings after bowling out the opposition team for 46 runs in the first innings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Rachin Ravindra was the top scorer for the Black Caps with 134 runs off 157 balls, including 13 boundaries and four maximums.

On the first ball of the 56th over in India's second innings, Sarfaraz Khan played a late cut-off New Zealand pacer Matt Henry towards the deep backward point. The batting duo completed the first run with ease. Rishabh Pant thought of two runs, but he had to return to the striker's end to survive a runout.

Sarfaraz was yelling, gesturing, and even jumping at the non-striker's end to alert Rishabh. However, Pant was too focused on the ball and ran halfway down the pitch for a second. Devon Conway, who was fielding at the boundary, made a poor throw, and Tom Blundell was out of position to break stumps.

Sarfaraz Khan Reaches His Maiden Test Century For India

Team India responded strongly to New Zealand's high total during their second innings. Virat Kohli (70) and Rohit Sharma (52) scored half centuries in India's fightback in the Bengaluru Test. The home team ended their day's play with 231 runs for three wickets and trailed the Kiwis by 125 runs at that time.

Sarfaraz Khan was joined by Rishabh Pant. Sarfaraz reached his century in just seven innings. He took just 110 balls to reach the milestone with the help of 13 fours and 3 sixes. Notably, the middle-order batter was included in the XI after Shubman Gill was sidelined with a stiff neck from the series opener.

Hope He Scores A Double Hundred Here Too - Kuldeep Yadav

Speaking after the end of play on Friday, left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav hoped that Sarfaraz Khan could recreate his double century from the Irani Cup in the second innings. Kuldeep praised Sarfaraz for his aggressive batting style, adding that he doesn't let bowlers settle, especially spinners.

“We enjoy his [Sarfaraz] batting a lot. You saw how he scored a 200 in the Irani Cup. I hope he scores a double hundred here too... He doesn’t allow the spinners to settle down. He counter-attacked the left-arm spinner [Ajaz Patel], and they had to bring in a fast bowler from one end," Kuldeep said, as quoted by PTI.
