In a rare sight, Pakistan middle-order batter Saud Shakeel ran four runs between the wickets during Day 2 of the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh. Bangladesh fielders made a sloppy fielding effort, which allowed the Pakistan batters to complete four runs before the ball reached the boundary line.

The Pakistan team suffered an early collapse after losing the toss in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, August 21. The home team lost three wickets for just 16 runs on the board within nine overs. Pakistan skipper Shan Masood scored 6 runs, while Babar Azam was dismissed for a two-ball duck on the opening day.

Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud provided a dream start with the ball for the visiting team. However, Saud Shakeel rescued the Pakistan team with a crucial partnership with opener Saim Ayub. The duo added a 98-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Saim was dismissed after scoring 56 runs off 98 deliveries.

The rare incident took place in the 48th over of Pakistan’s first innings during the ongoing match. Saud Shakeel played a straight drive to a full-length ball from Nahid Rana. The ball was heading towards the boundary. Shoriful Islam dived and managed to touch it with his fingertips, taking the pace off the ball.

The ball didn’t reach the boundary, but none of the Bangladesh fielders chased it down, allowing Saud Shakeel to run four runs before Najmul Hossain Shanto collected it. Commentators were surprised by the poor effort from the Bangladesh fielders in saving runs for their team in the ongoing Test match.

Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) official X (formerly known as Twitter) account shared a video of Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan running four runs and captioned it: "Don’t see this often… An all-run 4 for Saud Shakeel.”

Saud Shakeel Equals 65-Year-Old Pakistan Record

Earlier on Day 1, Saud Shakeel equaled Saeed Ahmed as the fastest Pakistani batter to reach 1,000 Test runs. The southpaw reached the milestone in just 20 innings. Ahmed had reached this mark in 1959 at the same venue against Australia. Shakeel needed 33 runs before this Test to hit the 1,000-run mark.

The record for the fastest 1,000 runs in Test cricket is jointly held by England batter Herbert Sutcliffe and West Indies cricketer Everton Weeks, who achieved it in just 12 innings. Australian batter Don Bradman reached the milestone in 13 innings, while Neil Harvey and Vinod Kambli took 14 innings each.
