Watch: Shahbaz Nadeem Dismisses Ben Stokes Following A Chat With Captain Virat Kohli

Left-arm orthodox Shahbaz Nadeem finally claimed his maiden wicket of the Test following a hard toil of 29 overs as he dismissed the dangerous-looking England all-rounder Ben Stokes on the second afternoon of the series-opener at the Chepauk.

Shahbaz Nadeem has come in for a lot of stick throughout the course of the England innings as he struggled to bowl consistently in one area, thereby dishing out boundary balls in almost every over.

Ben Stokes had targeted the left-arm orthodox via both conventional and reverse-sweeps but for once the Durham all-rounder failed to connect, giving Nadeem his first scalp.

Nadeem was seen having a discussion with skipper Virat Kohli before the start of his 30th over and post the discussion, he got his maiden scalp as Stokes, in an attempt to sweep him top-edged it straight to Cheteshwar Pujara at backward square-leg.

Pujara initially juggled the catch but eventually completing it to break the 124-run-stand between Stokes and Joe Root.

The wicket came on a timely occasion for Team India considering the fact that Ben Stokes was looking primed to get his second Test ton on Indian soil.

Having come into bat on the second morning after England lost its opener, Dom Sibley, on what turned out to be the final ball of the first day, Ben Stokes endured some nervous moments against the spinners. He survived two lucky breaks as Indian fielders failed to latch on to tough chances in the first session.

However, post that, the England swashbuckler launched a brilliant counter-attack against the spinners as he regularly employed slog sweeps and reverse-sweeps them before occasionally going downtown.

Stokes dismissal has put a lid on the scoring rate of England but Indian bowlers have not managed to make further in-roads with Joe Root holding the fort for the visitors at one end and Ollie Pope giving him company at the other.
