Shakib Al Hasan Castles Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin could not replicate his batting heroics from the first Test in the ongoing second India vs Bangladesh Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

The India spin spearhead scored a stunning century in the first Test in Chennai to help India recover from a poor start. Asked to bat first, India were reeling at 144/6 before Ravichandran Ashwin's 113-run knock bailed them out. He and Ravindra Jadeja (86) shared a 199-run stand for the seventh wicket as India posted 376 runs.

While the fans were expecting Ravichandran Ashwin to play another impactful knock with the bat in the second Test, he failed to deliver. The veteran spinner was out for just 1 run off 4 balls. Unlike the first Test, Ravichandran Ashwin did not have ample time to get set in the second Test as the Indian team was playing aggressively.

And perhaps that is why Ashwin could not last long with the bat. He was clean bowled by Shakib Al Hasan on the third ball of the 34th over. It was an arm-ball ball from the former Bangladesh skipper. Ashwin backed away and tried to play a cut shot but failed to do so. The ball stayed low and went on to crash into the off-stump.

Talking about the game, India declared their first innings on 285/9. Earlier in the day, Bangladesh started the proceedings with the bat. They were on 107/3 at the start of the day and were bowled out for 233 runs. At one stage, Bangladesh were on 224/6 and were looking set to post a 300-plus total.

However, they suffered an inexplicable collapse and lost their last four wickets for just nine runs. Mominul Haque starred with the bat for the visitors, scoring an unbeaten 107. For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets while Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep picked up two wickets each.

With the bat, India came out all guns blazing and raced away to 51 in just three overs. Rohit Sharma departed after scoring 23 runs off 11 balls while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 72 from just 51 balls. The likes of KL Rahul (68 off 43), Virat Kohli (47 off 35) and Shubman Gill (39 off 36) played crucial knocks as well. For Bangladesh, Shakib and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up four wickets each.
