Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer found himself at the center of attraction during the crucial IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, May 26. Actually, pictures of Shreyas Iyer having a conversation with Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani during the proceedings have taken social media by storm.

In the 18th over of MI’s innings, when Suryakumar Yadav was inching toward yet another half-century, the cameras caught an unusual sight, where Iyer and Akash Ambani were having some conversation right on the boundary line at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The PBKS captain was leaning over the advertisement board and was fully engaged as Ambani animatedly spoke to him mid-game, which left fans surprised.

Within minutes, the image of Iyer chatting with the MI owner mid-match went viral, with social media erupting in memes, jokes, and wild guesses about what was going on between the two.

However, no one knows what was actually discussed between Iyer and Ambani, but fans came up with every theory imaginable, with many guessing the MI owner must be convincing the PBKS captain to fix the match while some joking that they were discussing his Test snub for the England tour.

Jaipur jinx continues for Mumbai Indians in IPL

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have struggled in Jaipur, winning just one of their last six matches at the venue since 2013, and even that lone win came earlier this season against Rajasthan Royals. But the most concerning fact is MI’s record against top-4 teams this season is not good at all.

The Hardik-Pandya-led Mumbai franchise is heading into the IPL 2025 playoffs without a single win in 4 games against the other top-four sides.

And MI has never won the IPL after finishing third or fourth, as all five of their titles came after finishing in the top two.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings have finished in the top two of the points table and secured a spot in Qualifier 1 for only the second time in IPL history. The last time they made it to Qualifier 1 was way back in 2014 when they had a dream run to the final.

PBKS vs MI Match Highlight

Speaking about the match, after being invited to bat first in Jaipur, Mumbai posted 184/7 in their 20 overs thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty against the Punjab team. Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, and Vyshak Vijay Kumar each scalped two wickets for PBKS against the MI in Jaipur.

Well, Punjab Kings didn’t get off to the best start in their chase of 185, but Josh Inglis (73 off 42) and Abhishek Arya (62 off 35) turned the game around in style. The duo stitched a brilliant 109-run stand in just 59 balls, helping PBKS cross the line with nine balls to spare.

With this win, Punjab have booked their spot in Qualifier 1 and will now head home to Mullanpur for Qualifier 1 on May 29. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, will travel to Chandigarh for the Eliminator on May 30.

MI and PBKS’ opponents will be decided after the final IPL 2025 league match on Tuesday, May 27, between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
