How did Australia make it to the semi-finals?
Australia made it to the semi-finals by winning just one match in the group stage against England while their remaining two matches against Afghanistan and South Africa were washed out.
Talking about their only completed match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Australia delivered a brilliant performance and bagged a five-wicket victory over England in Lahore.
Batting first, England posted a huge total of 351/8 on the board. Opener Ben Duckett led the charge with a stellar 165 off 143 balls, supported by Joe Root’s composed 68 runs.
Despite early breakthroughs by Ben Dwarshuis and Adam Zampa, England maintained a strong scoring rate and ended up with a huge score on the board.
While chasing the target, Australia suffered early setbacks, losing Travis Head and Steve Smith cheaply. However, Matthew Short and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship with brilliant knocks.
Meanwhile, the best performance came from Josh Inglis' bat as he smashed an unbeaten 120 runs off just 86 balls. He found excellent support from Alex Carey (69 runs off 63 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (32 runs off 15 balls) and Australia crossed the finish line comfortably in 47.3.
It was the biggest successful run-chase in the history of ICC ODI events and Josh Inglis won the Player of the Match award for his iconic knock.
