Shubman Gill, who is in contention to become India’s next Test captain, has almost hit Nicholas Pooran during the IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday, May 22, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In a high-scoring affair, when Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran were troubling the Gujarat Titans (GT) bowlers, captain Shubman Gill lost his cool and unintentionally launched the ball towards the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter, leaving one and all stunned.
Shubman Gill almost hits Nicholas Pooran with a fierce throw in Ahmedabad
The incident unfolded in the 13th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. After Rashid Khan’s expensive 12th over, where the Afghanistan spin wizard conceded 25 runs to centurion Mitchell Marsh, the GT captain brought Prasidh Krishna back into the attack against the LSG.
This call proved right, as the Indian pacer gave away only four runs in this over, but what unfolded on the third ball left many questioning Shubman Gill’s intentions. On the third ball of the 13th over, Prasidh bowled a full delivery on off stump, and Pooran gently drove it to the left of mid-off.
Shubman Gill's wild throw raises many eyebrows
As Marsh and Pooran ran for a single, Gill picked the ball from mid-off and threw it towards the wicketkeeper, Jos Buttler, despite having already seen the LSG hard-hitter come close to him. However, Pooran managed to escape Gill’s throw by instantly defending his head with his hand.
But Shubman Gill's throw left many baffled, as Marsh and Pooran have already taken a single and have taken their respective crease, so there was no point in throwing the ball toward Jos Buttler. Now, the clip of the moment has been going viral across the social media platforms.

Pooran needed three sixes to hit the 100 mark and got there in style by launching one over the boundary off R Sai Kishore in the 15th over of their IPL 2025 clash against the GT in Ahmedabad.
He also completed 500 runs in IPL 2025 with his fifth half-century of the ongoing season. LSG will play their last game of this season against the RCB on May 27.
