PC: X

Team India skipper Shubman Gill and West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach were involved in a nasty collision during the second and final Test between the two teams. Both players appeared to have suffered injuries and were receiving treatment following the incident at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Gill came to the crease after the dismissal of Sai Sudharsan in India's first innings on Day 1 (Friday, October 10). Sudharsan scored 87 runs off 165 balls, including 12 fours, before being dismissed by Jomel Warrican. The left-handed batter responded to critics amid questions over his place in the playing XI.

Jayden Seales attempted a throw towards the stumps, but it went wide, prompting Imlach to move across while Shubman Gill, sprinting with his head down, tried to make his ground.

Both players crashed into each other awkwardly, leaving them in visible discomfort and forcing a brief pause in play. Physios from both teams rushed to the field for medical attention, with concerns briefly raised over a possible concussion for Gill.

Gill's batting partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, tried to keep things light after the collision. Jaiswal acted like a physio and was hilariously seen conducting a concussion test. Fortunately, both players were declared fit to continue.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan Put India in Strong Position

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant century and Sai Sudharsan’s half-century put India in a commanding position on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies. The pair added a solid 193-run stand for the second wicket, ensuring the hosts dominated proceedings in Delhi.

By stumps, India were 318/2 after 90 overs, with Jaiswal (173) and Shubman Gill (20) at the crease. Spinner Jomel Warrican was the only bowler to make a notable impact for the visitors, taking two Indian wickets, including KL Rahul, who was stumped for 38 in the first session.

The Shubman Gill-led team had already clinched the opening Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs and are now eyeing a clean sweep. A victory in Delhi would not only secure the series 2-0 but also boost their standing in the ongoing World Test Championship (2025-27) points table.

I Wasn't Thinking About Getting Runs - Sai Sudharsan

Speaking after the opening day, Sai Sudharsan said that he was focusing on building a solid stand rather than personal runs. Sudharsan expressed a desire to convert starts into even bigger scores in the future.

"It was a good contribution, good partnership between me and Jaiswal. Hopefully, we'll have longer partnerships and get a big score," Sudharsan said.

"Definitely, I wasn't thinking about getting runs, so I was a bit more free, expressed myself, took time rather than rushing things. I didn't try to make things happen. Grateful for whatever I've done, but there's always something in the mind to make a lot more, happy with the runs, but would want to make more."
