India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill produced a brilliant piece of fielding to dismiss Afghanistan National Cricket Team captain Hashmatullah Shahidi in the ongoing one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Shubman Gill showed excellent reflexes at first slip as he completed a sharp low catch to give India a crucial breakthrough on Day 3 of the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Washington Sundar's clever spin trap works perfectly

Washington Sundar bowled a well-flighted off-spin delivery that moved in the air before turning away from the left-handed batter after pitching. The clever Sundar delivery tempted the left-handed batter to play at it, but he could only get a thin outside edge on his bat.

The ball instantly went towards first slip, where Shubman Gill showed great fielding efforts. The Indian captain had to dive forward and stretch his hands low to the ground to complete the catch.

Shubman Gill pulls off a stunning low catch to dismiss Hashmatullah Shahidi

The catch was taken very close to the ground, raising doubts about whether the ball had touched the grass before Shubman Gill got control of it. However, the captain looked completely confident and appealed immediately. The on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire for a closer look.

After reviewing the footage, third umpire Chris Gaffaney confirmed that the catch was clean. The replays showed that Shubman Gill had managed to get his fingers under the ball before it touched the ground; as a result, Shahidi had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring just 5 runs from 10 balls.

After Hashmatullah Shahidi’s dismissal, India changed their field placement and brought the fielders closer to the batter. The move appeared to put pressure on Afghanistan opener Sediqullah Atal and encouraged him to look for a big shot.

Washington Sundar continues the damage as India close in on victory

Making the most of the opportunity, Washington Sundar bowled a clever delivery outside the off stump. The ball was tossed up in the air, inviting Atal to attack. The Afghan batter accepted the challenge and attempted an aggressive lofted drive over the cover region.

But the ball dipped and then turned away slightly after pitching instead of coming nicely onto the bat. As Atal tried to force the shot, he lost control of it and got a thick outside edge. The ball flew towards backward point, where Prasidh Krishna was stationed, and he completed a brilliant catch.

The moment the ball went into Prasidh's hands, Atal looked disappointed as he immediately dropped his head, knowing he had thrown away his wicket after doing the hard work for 42 runs off 80 deliveries against India.

He showed good patience and composure during his stay at the crease but could not convert his start into a bigger score and became a victim of Sundar's smart bowling.

Well, Sundar was on fire as he later dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant efforts. Now, India just needs three wickets to wrap up the match against Afghanistan.
