Virat Kohli scores 22 runs for India against Bangladesh
Kohli was unable to score big for India in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener against the Bangla Tigers. He came to bat after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma in the 10th over and didn't look good out in the middle initially.
Kohli took his time to settle but just after getting set, he got dismissed by the young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain. On the fourth ball of the 23rd over, the leg-spinner bowled a length delivery to Kohli outside off-stump.
Virat Kohli went on the back foot and smashed the ball, but he was unable to keep it down. The ball went straight to the backward point, where Soumya Sarkar took a good catch.
Kohli was disappointed with the way he got out and was seen checking his bat, while Shubman Gill, at the non-striker's end, gave a disappointing reaction.
Virat Kohli was dismissed for 22 runs off 38 balls, with 1 four, in the match. It was his fifth dismissal in 51 balls against leg-spin in ODIs since 2024. Overall, he has scored 31 runs at an average of 6.20 and a strike rate of 60.78 against the leg-spinners during this period.

What happened in the previous India vs Bangladesh ODI match?
The previous India vs Bangladesh ODI match was held on October 19, 2023, in Pune during the ICC Cricket World Cup. India claimed a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh to continue their dominant run in the competition. Chasing a modest target of 257, India finished off the match in just 41.3 overs, thanks to a magnificent unbeaten century from Virat Kohli.
While batting first, Bangladesh got off to a strong start with Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) adding 93 runs for the opening stand.
However, the introduction of Indian spinners changed the game. Ravindra Jadeja (2/38) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/47) broke the momentum, and despite Mahmudullah’s good 46-run knock from the lower order, Bangladesh could only manage to score 256 for 8. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah (2/41) and Mohammed Siraj (2/60) ensured a good finish for their side with brilliant bowling in the death overs.
Chasing the target, India were off to a solid start, thanks to Rohit Sharma (48 off 40) and Shubman Gill (53 off 55), who had an 88-run partnership.
After both the openers were back in the hut before the 20-over mark, Virat Kohli took charge and showcased batting brilliance to steer India to a victory. Supported by KL Rahul (34*), Kohli finished with a brilliant 103* runs off 97 balls for which he was awarded Player of the Match.
