India A captain, Shubman Gill, faced an injury scare in the ongoing second game of the Duleep Trophy 2024 against India B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, September 5.

The scary incident occurred during the 36th over of India B’s innings in Bengaluru. Gill might have injured himself to dismiss the India B wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The right-handed batter was seen in pain while completing the catch of Pant.

The Indian wicketkeeper’s attempt to hit a length delivery from Akash Deep down the ground ended in disappointment as he mistimed the shot and was caught at mid-off by the India A captain.

Gill executed a tumbling catch but clutched his shoulder following his mind-blowing efforts.

Thankfully, the Indian vice-captain received assistance from a teammate and looked fine after a few moments.

It was certainly a scary moment for the Indian cricket team management with the two-match Test series against Bangladesh on the horizon.

Watch here how Gill survives injury scare:

The India A captain slidded thrice after completing the catch. He was visibly seen in pain, and it seemed that Gill hurt his shoulder as he was seen groaning. Even during the celebration, Gill looked completely fine, as his reactions were telling a different story.

Rishabh Pant fail to shine on red-ball comeback

Well, the Indian team management would be certainly hoping Gill is fine, while Pant’s wicket was a significant breakthrough for India A. Pant failed impress in his comeback match in the red-ball cricket, leaving frustrated with 7 runs off 10 balls, including one boundary to his name.

Earlier, Gill admitted his challenges in red-ball cricket leading up to the Duleep Trophy and stated that he aims to meet his own expectations before India’s demanding Test schedule. Gill also revealed that he has improved his defensive skills against spin bowlers to shine in the upcoming Tests.

Shubman Gill hopes to shine in the upcoming Tests

Gill said in the press conference: “In Test cricket, my performance has not matched my expectations so far. But we are going to play 10 Test matches this season, and when I look back after those 10 Tests, hopefully, my expectations will be matched.”

He added, “I worked on my defense a little bit more against spinners. You should be able to defend a lot more when you are playing on a turning track against spinners, then you can play the scoring shots. With more T20s being played... I won't say on flat tracks, but on batting-friendly tracks, I think it takes away a little bit of your defensive game.”

India set to host Bangladesh in 2 Tests and 3 T20Is

Notably, India is all set to host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series later this month. The first test will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19, followed by the second and final test in Kanpur from September 27. The two teams will also play three T20Is.

Bangladesh recently stunned the world with their historic whitewash of Pakistan in a two-match Test series in Pakistan. Given their current form, Bangladesh’s upcoming India tour is expected to be more exciting this time around.
