Over the years, India have produced some great cricketers from the domestic circuit who have gone on to represent the India National Cricket Team. Some of them have performed well, and some have vanished after a few performances. Ranji Trophy was once one of the most important domestic tournaments in India’s cricketing history.

Now the competition has lost a bit of its value, as players, despite performing in this tournament, do not get an easy chance to make the Men in Blue squad. On Tuesday, 28th July, early in the morning, the Test squad for the upcoming two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka was announced, and some players missed out despite performing in the Ranji Trophy.

In this article, we name the top 3 Ranji Trophy 2025-26 performers who missed India's Sri Lanka Test squad.

Top 3 Ranji Trophy 2025-26 performers who missed India's Sri Lanka Test squad

1. Auqib Nabi

Auqib Nabi has been the star for the Jammu and Kashmir side as he led the side to their maiden Ranji Trophy last season. He was excellent in the semi-final against Bengal, single-handedly won the game for the side, and helped his side qualify for the final. He picked 9 wickets in the match and scored valuable 42 runs in the first innings.

Auqib Nabi can consistently bowl at one length and swing the ball in both directions, which is why, after his impressive performances in domestic cricket, he was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2026 and also featured in the List A multi-day matches for the Men in Blue side. Nabi finished the last season with 60 wickets and as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.

2. Smaran Ravichandran

Smaran Ravichandran has been one of the best finds in the Ranji Trophy last season. The Southpaw finished as the highest run-getter with 950 runs in the tournament. He represented Karnataka in the domestic season and was impressive throughout the season, and also helped his team to qualify for the final.

Smaran, in 14 innings, had an average of 86.36, scoring four centuries and 3 half-centuries, which displayed his form and talent in the domestic circuit. He was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2026; however, he was rarely given chances. Despite a good domestic season, he failed to get into the India team for the Sri Lanka series.

3. Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami has been a match-winner for the India National Cricket Team over the years. However, his last appearance came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand, which India won. He bowled brilliantly in the tournament and was the joint-highest wicket-taker for India alongside Varun Chakravarthy with 9 wickets. Since then, he has not featured in the team due to injuries and various reasons.

Shami later had a stellar Ranji Trophy season as he picked 8 wickets in the first innings of the semi-final for Bengal against Jammu and Kashmir. He finished as the second-highest wicket-taker for the side with 37 wickets and also impressed in the IPL 2026. But he has neither been included in the ODI and T20I squads nor in the Test squad.
