Shubman Gill scored a magnificent hundred in the second innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Gill looked in fine touch in this innings after falling for a duck in the first innings.

This was Shubman Gill's fifth Test hundred as he raised his bat in style with a sigh of relief on his face. Seeing his son score a thumping century, Gill's father Lakhwinder Singh Gill clapped proudly for his son from the stands.

Lakhwinder Singh Gill was visibly proud of his son's amazing achievement as he cheered for his son and gave him a flying kiss. A lot of credit for Shubman Gill's success goes to Lakhwinder and Shubman himself has admitted this previously.

Shubman Gill started his innings well in the last session of Day 2 as he remained unbeaten on 33. Rishabh Pant was at the other end, batting on 12. Both the youngsters started the third day positively and slowly started getting into the groove.

While Pant was the aggressor, Gill was solid and looked to play without taking any undue risks. But he put the bad balls away and was especially aggressive against the offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Gill used his feet to perfection against Miraz and smashed four sixes off his bowling. The 25-year-old was equally comfortable against both pace and spin bowling and was hardly troubled during his knock.

He went on to remain unbeaten on 119 off 176 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes. With this innings, he has cemented the No. 3 spot in India's Test team, at least for a while. It was his fifth Test century in 26 Tests to go with his six half-centuries.

Great comeback by Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill was under immense pressure after the duck in the first innings when he was caught down the leg side by Litton Das off the bowling of Hasan Mahmud. There were voices regarding his below-par average in Test cricket.

Gill had a difficult start to his Test career but has slowly started to own the position. He was under similar pressure in the series against England earlier this year but finished the series well.

The right-hander finished the England series with 452 runs in five Tests at an average of 56.50 with 2 hundreds and 2 fifties. Gill was second on the list of highest run-getters of the series, just behind Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a dream series.

Shubman Gill's form is a good sign for India ahead of the busy Test season. After the series against Bangladesh, the Men in Blue will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home. The Indian team will then travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they will play five Tests.
