Watch: Spirit Of Cricket Moment As Prithvi Shaw Walks Back To The Dugout Despite The Umpire Signalling Not Out

Prithvi Shaw presented a brilliant example of Spirit of Cricket after he walked off after being dismissed despite the on-field umpire not giving him out. This happened in the 22^nd match of the IPL 2021 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.

Delhi Capitals bowled first after captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and RCB found it difficult to counter the DC bowling be it pace or spin. Openers Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli only added 30 runs with Padikkal falling to Ishant Sharma for 17 and Kohli getting bowled by Avesh Khan for 12 runs.

Rajat Patidar (31) and Glenn Maxwell (25) steadied the ship a bit before AB de Villiers wielded his magic bat and accelerated the RCB score significantly. He remained unbeaten on 75* in 42 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours to his name, as Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to put on 171/5 in 20 overs. It included a 23-run over off Marcus Stoinis, who bowled the 20^th over of RCB innings.

The Delhi Capitals couldn’t capitalize in the powerplay as they lost two quick wickets. Opener and Orange Cap holder Shikhar Dhawan fell for 6 runs as he was caught by Yuzvendra Chahal off Kyle Jamieson. Then Steve Smith followed suit as Mohammed Siraj forced an edge off Smith to AB de Villiers.

Prithvi Shaw looked compact and at ease against all RCB bowlers at the start and it seemed that he along with Rishabh Pant will stabilize the innings and take them towards victory. Shaw hit 3 fours in his knock of 21 off 18 balls, before walking off despite the umpire giving him not out.

The incident happened on the second ball of the eighth over bowled by Harshal Patel. Patel bowled a short ball wide outside the off-stump and Prithvi Shaw couldn’t stop himself and chased after it. There was a faint sound when the ball hit the bat and AB de Villiers sounded confident in his appeal after catching the ball.

But the umpire didn’t seem to budge and even Harshal threw his hands in the air in anguish, but to the surprise of everyone, Shaw began walking towards the dugout despite the umpire clearly feeling that he was not out. This was surely a moment of the spirit of cricket and will gain DC some points in the fair play award table.
