Australia National Cricket Team star batsman Steve Smith played a scratchy innings in the first T20I of the five-match series against the Suryakumar Yadav-led India National Cricket Team on Thursday, November 23, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Steve Smith and Matthew Short opened the innings for Australia in the absence of first-choice openers. They batted quite well initially and took the attack on the Indian bowlers.

However, as the innings progressed Steve Smith started to look scratchy. He tried to hit boundaries but wasn’t able to generate enough power to send the ball past the boundary ropes.

He reached the half-century milestone off 40 balls and was dismissed on the very next delivery. On the 5th ball of the 16th over, pacer Mukesh Kumar bowled a shortish length delivery and Steve Smith went across the stumps and tried to hit the ball over the short fine-leg fielder.

However, he wasn’t able to hit the ball well. As his partner Josh Inglis had come a long way down for single, Steve Smith was forced to run. The batter wasn’t able to complete the run as Mukesh Kumar quickly grabbed the ball and knocked over the stumps.
