Australia quick Josh Hazlewood bowled the first over of the session with Devdutt Padikkal on strike. The experienced pacer bowled a full ball outside off stump from round the wicket. Padikkal played forward to it but got a thick outside edge.
The ball carried low to Steve Smith at second slip, who held on to the chance brilliantly. The umpires decided to check whether the ball was carried and found it straight in Smith's palms. As a result, Padikkal had to move back to the dressing room after facing just one ball after lunch.
