Dushmantha Chameera leaks 25 runs in his first over

DC captain Axar Patel handed the ball to Dushmantha Chameera in the second over itself. The pacer started off the over with a 140 kmph full delivery that Sunil Narine launched for a six.

Chameera then bowled a wide before allowing Narine to run two on the second ball of the over. On the third ball, Narine hit the right-arm pacer for a four, and again Chameera bowled a wide down the leg to the left-handed batter.

Sunil Narine again smashed the pacer for a six on the fourth ball over midwicket and took the single on the second last ball. Rahmanullah Gurbaz joined Sunil Narine in punishing Dushmantha Chameera as he hit him for a four on the last ball to make it a 25-run over.

Overall, it became the third most expensive over in the powerplay in the Indian Premier League 2025 behind Mitchell Starc's 30-run over against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Ishant Sharma's 28-run over against the Rajasthan Royals.

I don't know what his confidence level is - Ian Bishop on Dushmantha Chameera

In an interaction on ESPNCricinfo ahead of the DC vs KKR clash, Ian Bishop was asked whether the Delhi Capitals (DC) should look to use Dushmantha Chameera in powerplay overs against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Replying to this, Ian Bishop said that he is unaware of the confidence level of the pacer about bowling in the powerplay, but lauded him for the ability that he possesses. He said:

"I would, but I don't know what his confidence level is with regards to bowling in that powerplay. I would have to look up numbers, understand what his confidence level is. But I think at his best, I've been a great admirer of his and he's the type of bowler that I think with his pace, his languidness, the ability to get bounced, that you should be looking to use."

During the same interaction, Varun Aaron talked about the struggles of Delhi Capitals (DC) at home and said that the lack of wickets in the powerplay is hurting them. He said:

"For sure. I think there's a clear reason to that because if you see Kotla as such it's one of those wickets where it doesn't really work for bowlers who try to swing it. If you see, if you compare Mitchell Starc to Rabada, I feel Rabada was really successful at the Kotla. Rabada was a hit the deck new ball bowler and to extract anything out of that Kotla wicket, you need to hit the deck.

"With Starc, he's not able to get wickets up top. Mukesh, again, more release kind of bowler. So I think wickets like a dearth of wickets in the powerplay is something what is hurting them at home."
